Bienvenidos a Barcelona.
Barcelona center has become VERY touristy. Unfortunately. Especially the city center around the "la rambla". We even found it difficult to find a decent place to go out and eat tapas or a even find a decent bar.
In order to find the original local places you have to go away from the city center. The search for cozy bars can be a bit tricky since the shutters are covering the front entrances, and you might not even notice what kind of place is hidden behind the shutters - which is a shame.
Do not buy Barcelona card!
DO NOT buy the Barcelona card which is recommended in all the tourist guides! The discounts at museums and other tourist sights is only 10%. And hey, what is 10% of 13 €?
TheBarcelona card is twice as expensive as is the normal metro card you can buy at the stations. Besides you can also use the buses with your “normal” metro card!
The
Mercat boqueria.
Mercado de San josé - better known as "Mercat Boqueria" is to be found right on the middle of la Rambla. Even though it is visited from a LOT of tourists, it is still worth a visit. The market is full of beautiful decorations of colourful fresh fruit, juices/smoothies and hanging "jamons".
Since I last visited Barcelona the prices at the market have gone up. I remember that near closing time the juices were sold for 0,5 Euro. Now (march 2011) the bargain was 2 juices for maybe 2,5 Euro...
But still you can find chorizo and a big bundle of asparagus or mint leaves (for your mojito at your room) for only 1 Euro.

Best view of the city.
A lot of people, especially us tourits, go to Gaudi's park (Parc Guell). I think the most beautiful view is seen from the top of Montjuic. Almost a 360 degrees view of the city!
Accomodation:
If you are at least 4 persons the best tip is to book your own apartment. You can find apartments on different sites such at hotels.com or just search google for apartments in city.
If you are looking for a hostel then the "
Kabul Backpackers Hostel Barcelona" is recommended. It's situated in the heart of the center (
Plaça Reial 17
) and the hostel has it's own activities and you will easily get to know new people.

Barcelonetta:
One of the best things about Barcelona is that you can combine the big city life and the beach life. In the Barcelonetta area there is a busy beach life with bodegas, sunbathing people, surfers and joggers.
Segways:
In Barcelona you will notice that many of the locals travel by bike. If you want to try a different and fun way of getting around the city, you can rent a segway glide.

Going out:
As mentioned earlier I found it difficult to find decent places, that are not crowded by other tourists and where food is good.
Argentinian restaurant.
It is told that this cozy and authentic place is sometimes visited by Lionel Messi. By the way the service is very friendly and prices are decent.
Las Cuartetas.

Eat Mexican:
"Rosa del Raval" in the Raval neighborhood.
Address: On the corner between "C
arme" and "Angels".
Be aware of the Ravel neighbourhood is not the best to wal alone in during night. It's also where you find "the red light district" of Barcelona.
Live music:
If you are into live music then the "Harlem Jazz Club" in barri Gótic is worth a visit. You can check the website for a events such as MAMELUCO ( música brasileira), HABANA CON KOLA ( música cubana) 5.50€
Address: Comtessa de Sobradiel 8 (barri Gótic).
